Tenzin Gyatso, born in 1935 to a peasant family in northeastern Tibet was recognized at the age of two as the reincarnation of his predecessor, the Thirteenth Dalai Lama.  His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, is the exiled spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. Widely recognized as an advocate of world peace receiving many honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.  The world’s foremost Buddhist leader, travels extensively, speaking eloquently in favor of ecumenical understanding, kindness and compassion, respect for the environment, and, above all, world peace.

Translator Jeffrey Hopkins

 

Jeffrey Hopkins (1940 – July 1, 2024) was an American Tibetologist and Emeritus professor of Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at the University of Virginia. Where he taught for over three decades starting in 1973. Known for founding one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist Studies programs in the West Jeffrey was a beloved figure in the field. Hopkins passed away on July 1, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada, at the age of 83.
