Caribbean calcite is formed through a combination of natural processes involving the interaction of calcium carbonate minerals and water and has a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale. Caribbean calcite belongs to the trigonal crystal system. Its crystals are usually rhombohedral in shape, forming triangular faces. Distinguishing features include its banded or layered structure. It often forms in concentric layers, creating a distinct pattern resembling waves or ripples.
